Abstract

The current study was an attempt to examine the relationship of student’s sleep quality, their screen time usage and stress during this pandemic (Covid-19). It was hypothesized that; H1: There would be positive correlation between Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and COVID Stress Scale, H2: There would be positive correlation between Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and Screen-Time Usage, H3: There would be positive correlation between COVID Stress Scale and Screen-Time Usage and H4: There would be a significant difference among the scores of male and female students. To gather the data for current study a sample of 130 students were taken from the University of Karachi. A demographic questionnaire was made for basic information of the participants and their screen time usage. Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (Buysse, D.J. 1988) was administered to check their sleeping quality and COVID Stress Scale (Tayler, et, al., 2020) was used to measure the stress among students during the pandemic. Results of the present research proved that stress during the pandemic is negatively correlated with sleep quality of university students, and stress during the pandemic is in weak positive correlation with the screen-time usage of university students. It was found that screen-time was in weak positive correlation with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, while it was also seen that there was significant difference between the scores of both male and female students on the scale of Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. It was found from the current study that during the pandemic students have faced stressful conditions and result of which have led them to poor quality of sleep and more screen time usage.
