Empowering Marginalized Groups through Participation by Village Support Organizations (VSOs)
Abstract
A cross-sectional study was conducted in District Swabi with the aim to find out the role of Village Support Organizations (VSOs) in the empowerment of marginalized groups, where data from 384 respondents was collected through interview schedule. Multivariate results show that a spurious relationship between gender development and community satisfaction while controlling gender of the respondents including male and female. In addition, a non-significant and spurious relationship was found between gender development and Community Satisfaction towards the Efficacy of VSO’s while controlling educational attainment categories namely primary to middle, & above. Likewise, a spurious relationship was found between Community Satisfaction towards the Efficacy of VSO’s and gender development while controlling the age groups of the respondents. For the inclusion of marginalized groups into the mainstream, it is needed that the VSOs should hire and train the local volunteers keeping in view the norms of the culture, so they can further sensitize the local community on gender related issues generally and women specifically.
